Job Title: Communications Intern

Hourly Commitment: Part time, 10 hours a week 

Compensation: $18/ hour 

Reports to: campaign manager


Summary:

Hartford WFP is seeking a driven and creative communications intern to join our campaign team to elect Tiana Hercules, Josh Michtom, and Alex Thomas to Hartford City Council.

Essential Job Functions:

Our communications intern will be responsible for developing social media materials such as instagram graphics and short-form video content to help present and communicate the ideas and values of our candidates. While video content will require some in-person availability in order to meet with and record our candidates, the majority of the communications work required can be completed remotely. Additional responsibilities will include availability for weekly virtual check-ins with the campaign manager as well as responsiveness to emails and texts within a reasonable timeframe. 


In order to finish all weekly hours, as well as to be an in-person presence within our campaign and our community, our intern will also use some of their hours to support our field team with a weekly canvass. Our team will provide training and support for the ideal candidate, and is fully invested in seeing every member of our campaign develop their professional skills and network.   


Ideal Candidates should have:

  • Experience creating graphics or other content on Canva or other design software 
  • Experience creating video content for platforms such as Instagram, Tik Tok, or Youtube 
  • Strong communication skills; (bilingual a big plus) 
  • Self-motivated work ethic 
  • Openness to being coached and learning new skills 
  • A basic knowledge of or connection to the city of Hartford; Hartford natives and/or residents strongly preferred 
  • A basic understanding of progressive politics 
  • Flexibility in scheduling

Hartford WFP (Working Families Party) is seeking a friendly and hardworking canvasser to join our campaign team to elect Tiana Hercules, Josh Michtom, and Alex Thomas to Hartford City Council.

Essential Job Functions:

Canvassers are the lifeblood of a political campaign, responsible for going from door to door as representatives for our campaign. Canvassers will speak to potential voters to introduce our candidates, communicate our message, and collect information about how they intend to vote. Shifts will be on weekday evenings or weekends during the day, between 4-8 hours depending on availability. Shifts may occasionally include phone canvassing or event attendance in order to round out weekly hours. 


Our team will provide training and support for the right candidate, and provide you with all resources available to make you as comfortable, prepared, and safe as possible. We are fully invested in developing your skills and there may be opportunities for a raise or promotion within the campaign based on performance. 


Ideal Candidates should have:
